Vaiśākha Buddha Pūrṇimā Divas 2024
The International Buddhist Confederation (IBC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and the National Museum commemorated Vai??kha Buddha P?r?im? Divas at the National Museum, where the Hon'ble President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu delivered a poignant recorded video message echoing the timeless teachings of Lord Buddha. She eloquently spoke of truth, non-violence, and love for humanity, urging us to embrace these values for societal harmony and nation-building. President Murmu beautifully summarised Lord Buddha's message, reminding us of his words, "Appa Deepo Bhava" ? be a light unto yourself.
Minister of State for Culture and External Affairs, Smt. Meenakashi Lekhi, Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Shri Govind Mohan and Acharya Lokesh Muni also graced the occasion. Acharya Muni shed light on the profound interconnectedness of Jainism and Buddhism. The presence of such esteemed guests added depth and significance to the event.
A particularly moving part of the event was the prayers offered at the chamber of the Holy Buddha Relic, led by revered monks from different traditions, in the presence of dignitaries and diplomats from Buddhist nations, including Myanmar and Sri Lanka. His Eminence 13th Kundeling Tatsak Rinpoche Tenzin Chokyi Gyaltsen led the Buddha dhamma chanting and prayers in the Holy Relic Hall of the National Museum. His profound reflections on the life and teachings of the Buddha resonated deeply with the audience, emphasizing the timeless relevance of compassion, non-violence, and wisdom in today's world.
Moreover, the event showcased prayers for Unity, Harmony, and World Peace at five historical Buddhist landmarks in Delhi, organized by the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC):
It was inspiring to witness the Nalanda debate, a hallmark of Buddhist tradition, presented by nuns from the Jamyang Choling Institute in Dharamshala.
Director General of IBC, Mr. Abhijit Halder emphasising on the teachings of Lord Buddha in his vote of thanks specifically mentioned that the message delivered by the Honourable President Murmu at IBC's Vesak day celebrations was beamed live to different countries around the world, especially to Buddhist nations.
Mr Halder appreciated the performance of the nuns from Dharamshala who held a Nalanda debate session and also Smt. Vidya Shah for her classical music dedicated to the auspicious occasion.
In a demonstration of international collaboration, a delegation from IBC also participated in celebrations in Lumbini, Nepal, while initiating the construction of the India International Centre for Buddhist Culture and Heritage.
The event served as a powerful reminder of the profound impact of Buddha's teachings on our lives and the world at large. It was a testament to the enduring legacy of compassion, tolerance, and wisdom that Lord Buddha left for humanity.
