On January 7, 2025, a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1 struck whose impact extended beyond Tibet, with 13 people injured in neighboring Nepal and minor damage reported in Northern India. The tremor was felt across much of South Asia, demonstrating its widespread reach. The aftermath of the disaster has left many communities in urgent need of support, with search and rescue efforts ongoing. The scale of the damage and loss highlights the vulnerability of this seismically active region, reflects the need for comprehensive disaster preparedness and international cooperation in the wake of such tragedies.

In response to the recent devastating events, the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC) organized a solemn prayer meeting on January 21, 2025, at the National Museum. The gathering was led by the Secretary-General and the Director-General of the IBC, to offer heartfelt prayers and foster a collective spirit of compassion for the welfare of all beings affected by the crisis. The SG expresses his deepest condolences to the victims of the devastating earthquake.

The immense loss and widespread destruction caused by this natural disaster have left many in anguish and in this moment of sorrow, IBC stands in solidarity with the resilient people, offering our thoughts, prayers, and support, aiming to contribute to the collective healing process for those affected by the disaster. May the strength of their communities guide them through the recovery process, and may the souls of the departed find peace. We are united in compassion as we mourn this tragic loss together.
