International Buddhist Confederation (IBC) in collaboration with the members of Indian Buddhist communities will be organizing Samrat Ashok Jayanti Samaroh at Asoka Mission, New Delhi on 14th April 2016.

Shri Upendra Kushwaha, Honourable Minister of State for Human Resource Development, Government of India will be the Chief Guest on the occasion. Shri Kiren Rijiju, Honourable Minister of State for Home Affairs, will be the Guest of Honour.

The celebration will mark the birth anniversary of Emperor Ashok, the only king in history to have relinquished warfare and killing. Had this not happened, and had the great king not adopted the Dhamma, humankind would not have been exposed to Buddha’s eternal message of love, peace, oneness and compassion.

Over 6000 persons are expected to attend the function. Among the communities that are celebrating this occasion are the Sakya and Maurya communities. The former trace their lineage from the clan of Buddha Sakyamuni himself, while the latter trace their ancestry back to the Maurya clan to which Emperor Ashok belonged.
