Delegates from 70 countries to participate in int’l Buddhist conclave

VARANASI: The International Buddhist Conclave is scheduled to be held from October 3 to 5 at Sarnath. Around 300 delegates from 70 countries are expected to take part in it. Tour operators and travel agents may also participate.

The conclave will include presentations, discussion and business meetings between the international and domestic tour operators and an exhibition highlighting the Buddhist attractions in India. The delegates would visit the ancient Buddhist sites like Dhammek Stupa, Mulagandha Kutey Vihara, museum in Sarnath and also visit Subeh-e-Banaras at Assi ghat and visit the Dashashwamedh ghat to watch Ganga aarti.

 With a view to showcase and project the Buddhist heritage and pilgrim sites, the ministry of tourism organizes International Buddhist Conclave. A meeting was held recently and the officials were directed to complete all arrangements at the earliest. The electricity department was instructed to make arrangements for uninterrupted power supply.
Divisional commissioner Nitin Ramesh Gokarn asked the departments concerned to maintain parks with water fountains and lights near Mula Gandha Kutey Vihara, the venue of conclave in Sarnath, removal of encroachments from roadsides and beautification of the area.
