Bodhgaya

Under the supervision of Shri NangzeyDorjee, Member Secretary, the Bodhgaya Temple Management Committee (BMTC) organized the MahaKathinaCheevar Dana (robe offering) ceremony on 30th November 2020/2564 B.E at Mahabodhi temple in Bodghgaya. KathinaCheevar Dana is one of the oldest preserved Buddhist Tradition carried on from the days of the Lord Buddha to the present time. It occurs at the end of the VarshaVassa or monsoon period usually in October or November. VarshaVassa is an annual three-month monastic retreat practiced especially in the Theravada Buddhist tradition and the MahaKathinaCheevar Dana ceremony marks the completion of Varsha Vasa. The ceremony was led by Chief Monk BhikkhuChalinda with participants offering prayers under the Bodhi Tree. The ceremony was attended by nearly 100 Sangha members from different countries, lay devotees and the Bodhgaya Temple Management Committee (BMTC) members MahashwetaMaharathi and Krishna Manjhi.
