Buddhist scholars and intellectuals from South Asia and South East Asia congregated in Agartala city. The three-day event was organized by the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC) in collaboration with Shillong-based Asian Confluence and Tripura based Dhamma Dipa Foundation. More than 40 experts spoke in the presence of about 100 scholars, diplomats, opinion leaders and policy makers from 12 South Asian countries over better relations between SAARC and ASEAN.

Issues like peace, connectivity, people-to-people relations, sustainable development and climate change were discussed. India’s Act East Policy was also on the agenda. During the discussions, it was agreed that a Buddhist University be set up in North-East India, preferably in Tripura. There was unanimity to promote Buddhist tourism in the region. Buddhism, which spreads the message of peace, can play a vital role in bringing peace and development in the region.
